CAT

Description : The Common Admission Test (CAT) is conducted by the IIMs every year for short listing candidates for their flagship post graduate programs. The scores from this test are used by many other institutes as well.

Test Format : Computer based test.

Test Date : CAT 2017 : It will be conducted in two session on 26th November, 2017 (Sunday).

Test Pattern : CAT 2017 will have 3 sections as follows :

  • Section I : Verbal and Reading Comprehension
  • Section II : Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
  • Section III : Quantitative Ability

Most of the questions will be multiple choice type objective questions but some questions in each section may be subjective, answer to which are to be typed on the screen. The number of subjective questions will differ in each section. Basic on-screen calculator for computation will be allowed.

Test Duration : The candidates will be allotted 60 minutes for each section and will not be allowed to switch from one section to another. Total test duration : 180 minutes, i.e., 3 hours.

Marking Scheme : Not disclosed.

XAT

Description : Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a National level exam conducted by XLRI to select the most appropriate students for management education. The scores from this test are used by many other institutes as well.

Test Format : Computer based test.

Test Date : XAT-2017/18 : 7th January, 2018.

Test Pattern : The exam shall consist of the following sections :

  • Quantitative Ability
  • English Language & Logical Reasoning
  • Decision Making
  • General Knowledge
  • Essay

XAT 2017/18 : The test was divided into two sections.

  • Section I : 78 Multiple choice type objective test (5 answer options per question). Time duration for this section was 170 minutes. The details for this section are given below :
    • Verbal and Logical Ability : 26 questions
    • Decision Making and Analytical Reasoning : 23 questions
    • Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation  : 29 questions
  • Section II : General Awareness and Essay Writing. The details for this section are given below:
    • General Awareness : 25 questions based on Current Affairs and factual General Knowledge. (5 answer options per question). Time duration : 35 minutes.
    • Essay Writing : An abstract topic was given to write upon

Test Duration : The total duration of the test : 210 minutes i.e. 3 hours 30 minutes.

Marking Scheme : Correct Answer : +1 point. Incorrect answer : -25% . Negative marking scheme was introduced for unattempted questions also, where beyond 13 such questions there was negative marking of 0.05 mark.

IIFT

Description : The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade conducts its own examination for admission to both its campuses at Delhi and Calcutta.

Test Format : Pencil-paper based test.

Test Date : IIFT-2017/18 : 3rd December 2017.

Test Pattern : Multiple choice type objective test (4 answer options per question).  The test will cover English Comprehension, General Knowledge & Awareness, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Analysis. The pattern for IIFT 2015/16 is detailed below :

  • Reading Comprehension : 17 questions ; 1 mark each
  • Verbal Ability : 20 questions ; 0.75 marks each
  • Analytical & Logical Reasoning: 20 questions ; 1 mark each
  • Data Interpretation  : 15 questions ; 1 mark each
  • Quantitative Ability  : 20 questions ; 1 marks each
  • General Awareness :  26 questions ; 0.5 marks each

Test Duration : 120 minutes, i.e., 2 hours

Marking Scheme : Correct Answer : detailed above. Incorrect answer: -1/3rd of the marks assigned to that question.

SNAP

Description : Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) Test is a common online test for the admission into any postgraduate program at any of the Symbiosis institutes.

Test Format : Computer based test.

Test Date : SNAP-2017/18 : 17th December, 2017.

Test Pattern : Multiple choice type objective test (4 answer options per question). The test will be divided into  4 sections as follows :

  • General English : 40 marks
  • Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency : 40 marks
  • Current Affairs : 30 marks
  • Analytical & Logical Reasoning : 40 marks

Test Duration : 120 minutes, i.e., 2 hours

Marking Scheme : Incorrect Answer : -25%

Result : As per business school.

NMAT

Description : NMIMS Management Aptitude Test (NMAT) is the MBA entrance exam for admissions to the MBA, PGDM and PGDBM courses offered by all the Narsee Monjee Institutes.  It is also accepted by few other colleges in India.

Test Format : Computer based test.

Test Date : NMAT-2017/18 : 5th October, 2017 - 18th December, 2017

Test Pattern : Multiple choice type objective test. The test will be divided into the following sections :

  • Language Skills : 32 questions ; 22 minutes
  • Quantitative Skills : 48 questions ; 60 minutes
  • Logical Reasoning : 40 questions ; 38 minutes

Test Duration : Total test duration : 120 minutes, i.e., 2 hours. Each of the 3 sections has individual section timings (details mentioned above) and candidates can choose the section sequence. In case a candidate completes a section (answering & reviewing) before the section time gets over, the balance time of that section does not get added to the next section(s).

Marking Scheme : No negative marking.

Result : As per business school.

Candidates are also given the option of appearing more than once (upto three maximum attempts, including "no shows"). In case of candidates taking more than one attempt, the best score, which is the total score & its respective sectional score, is considered for short listing for the subsequent process.

IBSAT

Description : IBSAT is an aptitude test conducted by the ICFAI University Group, for students seeking admission into various ICFAI Business Schools. 

Test Format : Computer based test.

Test Date : IBSAT-2016 : 16th December, 2016 - 27th December, 2016

Test Pattern: Multiple choice questions. The test will be divided into the following sections :

  • Verbal Ability : 50 questions
  • Reading Comprehension : 30 questions
  • Quantitative Aptitude : 30 questions
  • Data Adequacy & Data Interpretation : 30 questions

Test Duration : 120 minutes, i.e., 2 hours

Marking Scheme : Correct Answer : +1 point, No negative marking.

Result : IBSAT-2016 : 6th January, 2017.

IRMA

Description : In addition to CAT / XAT scores, the Institute of Rural Management Anand also conducts its own admission test “Issues of Social Concern (ISC)” for entry to its post graduate programs. The scores for CAT / XAT and ISC are combined in the selection process.

Test Format : Computer based test. The interface is similar to CAT 2016 interface.

Test Date :  IRMA-ISC 2016/17 : 12th February, 2017.

Test Pattern : Multiple choice type objective test. The test comprises of 40 questions on Issues of Social Concern. The questions test the candidate’s basic understanding of all relevant issues, and ability to analyze, and take a view on conflicting socio-economic goals, objectives and demands.

Test Duration : 80 minutes i.e. 1 hour 20 minutes.

Marking Scheme : Correct Answer : not specified, Incorrect Answer : Negative marking is there, which varies from time to time.

MICAT

Description : The Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) conducts MICAT for admission to its PGDM (C) course. The test will be held twice, i.e. MICAT I on December 11, 2016, and MICAT II on February 12, 2017.

Test Format : Pencil-paper test 

Test Date : MICAT-I : December 11, 2016; MICAT-II : February 12, 2017.

Test Pattern : The test paper will consist of 2 booklets, the details of which are given below :

  • Booklet- 1: It has 2 parts.
    • Part 1 : has multiple choice type objective test divided across four sections comprising of Quantitative Ability, Reasoning Ability, General Awareness and Verbal Ability. Each wrong answer will carry 1/4th negative marks. There will be no negative marking for un-attempted questions.
    • Part 2 : consists of two questions, the answer to which is to be written in the space provided. It includes the following
  • A set of four pictures are given. Candidates are required to number the pictures and write a story supporting the sequence using all the pictures.
  • On a given topic, the candidates are expected to mention points supporting the argument, points against the argument and their own views on the topic.
  • Booklet- 2 : will have three sections and all the questions in this section are mandatory.

Test Duration : 125 minutes i.e., 2 hours 5 minutes.

TISSNET

Description : The exam is conducted by and for admission into the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) located in Mumbai.

Test Format : Computer based test.  The interface is similar to CAT interface.

Test Date : TISS-NET 2016/17 : 7th January, 2017.

Test Pattern : Objective type test. TISS-NET contains 100 questions spread over three major areas of assessment as given below :

  • General Awareness : 40 marks
  • Mathematical and Logical Reasoning : 30 marks
  • English Proficiency : 30 marks

Test Duration : 100 minutes i.e. 1 hour & 40 minutes.

Marking Pattern : Correct Answer : + 1;  No negative marking.

CMAT

Description : The Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is the first national level test conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for admission to all management programs in AICTE approved institutions.

Test Format : Computer based test.

Test Date :  28th January, 2017

Test Pattern: Multiple choice type objective test. The test consists of 4 sections, which are detailed below:

  • Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation : 25 questions
  • Logical Reasoning : 25 questions
  • Language Comprehension : 25 questions
  • General Awareness : 25 questions

Test Duration : 180 minutes, i.e., 3 hours. Candidates can move back and forth between the 4 sections.

Marking Scheme : Correct Answer : +4 ; Incorrect Answer : -1.

Result :  As per AICTE.

MAT

Description : Management Aptitude Test is conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA) for short listing candidates for the post graduate programs.

Test Format : Candidates can choose between Computer based test and Paper based test.

Test Date : MAT is conducted 4 times in a year in February, May, September and December. For December, 2016, the Paper based test will be held on 11th December, 2016 (Sunday). The Computer based test will be held from 17th December, 2016 onwards.

Test Pattern: Multiple choice type objective test. The test consists of 5 sections, which are detailed below:

  • Language Comprehension :  40 questions
  • Mathematical  Skills :  40 questions
  • Data Analysis and Sufficiency : 40 questions
  • Intelligence and Critical Reasoning :  40 questions
  • Indian and Global Environment :  40 questions 

Test Duration : 150 minutes, i.e., 2 hours 30 minutes. Candidates can move back and forth between the sections.

Marking Scheme : Correct Answer : +1 ; Incorrect Answer : -0.25.

Result :  MAT September : 16th September, 2016.

GMAT

Description : Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) and the scores are used by institutes worldwide as part of their admission process.

Test Format : Computer based test  

Test Date : The GMAT exam is delivered year-round and on demand in test centers around the world.

Test Pattern: Multiple choice type objective test. It is an adaptive test as explained below.

At the start of each section, the student is presented with a question of medium difficulty. As one answers each question, the computer scores the answer and uses it - as well as the responses to any preceding questions - to determine which question to present next. Correct responses typically prompt questions of increased difficulty. Incorrect responses generally result in questions of lesser difficulty. One cannot skip, return to or change responses to previous questions.

The test consists of 4 sections, which are detailed below :

  • Analytical Written Assessment :  30 minutes
  • Integrated Reasoning :  30 minutes
  • Quantitative Ability : 75 minutes
  • Verbal Ability :  75 minutes

Test Duration : 210 minutes, i.e., 3 hours 30 minutes

Marking Scheme : Score is determined by the number of attempts, the veracity of the attempts, the level of difficulty and other statistical characteristics of each question. 

Result : Score is given as soon as the candidate submits the exam.

ATMA

Description : The AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) is conducted by Associations of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) and has been approved by Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India for admission on All India Basis to the MBA/PGDM and other Post Graduate Programmes.

Test Format : ATMA is a computer-based test in December, May and July and a paper-based test in March.

Test Date :  ATMA is conducted 4 times in a year in March, May, July and December.

Test Pattern: Multiple choice type objective test (4 answer options per question). Total number of questions : 170. The test comprises of 2 parts each consisting of 3 sections which are detailed below:

  • Part- 1 :
    • Analytical Reasoning Skills-I : 30 minutes.
    • Verbal Skills-I : 30 minutes.
    • Quantitative Skills- I : 30 minutes.
  • Part- 2:
    • Analytical Reasoning Skills-II : 30 minutes.
    • Verbal Skills-II  : 30 minutes.
    • Quantitative Skills-II  : 30 minutes.

Test Duration : 180 minutes, i.e.3 hours.

Marking Scheme : Correct Answer : +1
